IN ATLANTA – THE MAYOR HAS GONE EVEN FURTHER DUE TO THE CITY’S POPULATION DENSITY AND NUMBER OF CASES. ARCHITH SESHADRI IS IN ATLANTA. IT’S A TALE OF TWO LEADERS — ATLANTA’S MAYOR — KEISHA LANCE BOTTOMS AND GEORGIA’S GOVERNOR — BRIAN KEMP. ON MONDAY — UNLIKE OTHER STATE GOVERNOR’S, GEORGIA’S GOVERNOR DID NOT ISSUE A MANDATORY STATEWIDE SHUT DOWN. INSTEAD, THE GOVERNOR DID PUT RESTRICTIONS ON RESTAURANTS, BARS AND CLUBS — BUT IN ESSENCE — NO FORCED SHUT DOWN. “THIS ORDER WILL ALSO CLOSE BARS AND NIGHTCLUBS AND ALL GATHERINGS OF 10 OR MORE PEOPLE, UNLESS YOU CAN MAINTAIN 6 FEET BETWEEN PEOPLE AT ALL TIMES.” BUT JUST A FEW HOURS LATER — THE MAYOR — DID — ORDERING A 14-DAY STAY AT HOME ORDER FOR ATLANTA RESIDENTS— MANY HEALTH CARE WORKERS SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH AND THEY NEED PEOPLE TO STAY HOME AND WANT MORE ACTION FROM THE GOVERNOR TO SHUT DOWN THE STATE BEFORE HOSPITALS REACH THEIR CAPACITY. “I HAVE ALSO RESTRICTED AT STATE HEALTH FACILITIES, CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES, JUVENILE JUSTICE CENTERS EXCEPT IN END OF LIFE CIRCUMSTANCES.” THE GOVERNOR HAS CLOSED PUBLIC SCHOOLS UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH, ORDERED STATE EMPLOYEES TO WORK REMOTELY AND ALLOCATED NEARLY 20- MILLION DOLLARS FOR MEDICAL SUPPLIES. “AT A MINIMUM, THIS CALLS FOR QUARANTINE IN LONG TERM CARE FACILITIES, HAVE CHRONIC LUNCH DISEASE, UNDERGOING CANCER TREATMENT,HAVE A POSITIVE COVID19 TESTS, HAVE SYMPTOMS OR EXPOSURE” FOR NOW, TO SHUT DOWN OR NOT TO SHUT DOWN — THE WAIT GAME IN GEORGIA CONTINUES. REPORTING IN ATLANTA, ARCHITH SESHADRI ATLANTA BUREAU CHIEF JOHN: GOVERNOR KEMP IS ALLOWING TEMPORARY LICENSES FOR OUT OF STATE DOCTORS AND NURSES TO HELP GEORGIA HEALTH CARE WORKERS AND HAS SET UP 23 REFERRAL-ONLY TESTING SITES ACROSS THE STATE.

  1. No need to shutdown the state. Majority of the cases are in Metro Atlanta (Atlanta, GA) area. The other counties except for where Albany, GA is located have minimal cases. See DPH map: https://dph.georgia.gov/covid-19-daily-status-report
