Water Update – Test Results Conclude Water is Safe

Hi South Jordan I’m Rachael Van Cleave
the public information officer for the city. So, we’ve been updating you
regularly about all of the testing we’ve been doing with our water here in South
Jordan, what that looks like over the last couple of days is testing 20 sites
and 30 different elements, so a lot of extensive testing just because when
you’re concerned residents we’re concerned as well and we wanted to make
sure we left no stone unturned with our testing some of those tests include pH
alkalinity, nitrates, nitrites, fluoride, chlorine, full metals, and of course
chromium-6 which got us started off with all of this testing, and we’re going
to talk a little bit about those results but for that part I’m going to defer to
Raymond Garrison our Associate Public Works Director and former Water Manager
to tell us about those results and what they mean yeah so as Rachael previously
mentioned we did receive our results from a certified laboratory in the
valley. We’ve reviewed those results and we have not exceeded any MCL, MCL
stands for maximum contaminant limit that is set forth by the EPA. We have not
exceeded any of those values after working closely with our partner
agencies, we have determined that we feel good about eliminating our water system
as a source for these health concerns residents are experiencing. So, yes so
what that means is our water is safe to drink it’s safe to use but we understand
some residents are concerns so what we will be doing is next steps is working
with our Salt Lake County Health Department on those self-reporting
surveys that we’ve sent out. Thank you to the residents who have already reported
that who have had symptoms. The Health Department will be
using that information to see if there’s any trends or anything
that they can pinpoint that’s going on Other than that, one more time, our water is safe to drink it is
safe to use. Thank you so much for your patience and working with us residents.
We really appreciate it and thank you for trusting us to do the best job that
we can do here at the city.
