Welcome to this edition of the The Mane Issue,
Wallace State’s Student News for the Fall 2019 Semester! We’ll be taking a look at events, news and
what’s happening on campus this week. Wallace State now has an Esports Team Gaming
Club! Are you interested in learning more? Please email [email protected] Join the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society! If
you have completed at least 12 credit hours and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
you are eligible! Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society that recognizes the academic success
of two year college students worldwide. There is a one time fee of $85 to become a member.
If interested or would like more information please contact Dr. Stacey Sivley or Brandon
Smith before October 1st. Learn more about the Wallace State Rotaract
Club at the Awareness event on Tuesday September 10 at 10AM. The event will be held on common
area between the Bailey Center and Campus Bookstore. Don’t forget to join us for this year’s
Common Read! The Common Read selection is Big Fish, by Daniel Wallace. The movie will
be featured on campus on October 1st and 2nd. Be sure to check back for more details on
this and other upcoming Common Read events! Do you need to get some exercise after a stressful
day? Why not join the Wallace State Running Club at 4:45PM every Monday and Wednesday
at the Wellness Center? All runners, joggers and walkers are welcome! Remember, this club
is open to all Wallace State students, faculty and staff. On September 18, there will be a Financial
Forum from 11AM to 12PM in the Bailey Center Auditorium. Stop by and get some information
on saving and managing your money! Campus Ministries is hosting 3D groups every
Monday at 6:30 PM during the Fall and Spring semesters. They are held in the Student Center
room 100. If you are interested in signing up for the Fall Retreat on September 13th
and 14th, contact our Campus Minister, Christy Hicks at 256.338.4468 for more information
on registration. This Saturday the Wallace State Dance department
is holding community cast auditions for its production of the Nutcracker. Auditions will
be held on September 14 beginning at 10AM for children 8-11 years old and 11AM for children
and teens 12 years or older. No dance experience is necessary and participation is free of

or call 256.352.8153. The Evelyn Burrow Museum is a screening partner
is South Arts’ 2019-2020 Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers, sponsoring
free screenings of six films starting this month on September 17th! The filmmakers will
attend the screenings and be available for a discussion after each event. Wallace State
is one of only two venues in Alabama included on the tour. The first film in the series
is “It’s Time” and is about Ole Miss Rebel defensive back Chucky Mullins. It will
be held in the Burrow Center Recital Hall on September 17th beginning at 6PM. Check
out the trailer link in the description below. The Wallace State Community College Department
of Nursing Education has extended its application deadline for students wishing to apply for
Spring 2020 admission. Potential students now have until 4 p.m., Sept. 30 to fill out
the online application and send in accompanying documents. The Wallace State Nursing program
is accepting applications for its traditional Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program and
its new ADN/Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) option offered through its partnership
with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). A Nursing Recommended Advising Session
will be held on Monday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. in Room 219 of the School of Nursing and Center
for Science. Spring 2020 Classes will start Jan. 6, with priority registration for Spring

* Fall 2019 Flex Term I is Aug. 19-Oct. 7 * The Last day to withdraw is Nov. 18

Come out and support the Lady Lions Volleyball team this week! Beginning on Tuesday September
9 the Lions’ take on the Cleveland State Cougars. The Lady Lions’ then host the Bevill
State Bears on Wednesday September 11. Both matches start at 6PM in the Tom Drake Coliseum. If you need an emergency supply of groceries,
