UTEP Headlines Newscast 07.02.15

IT’S Thursday, JULY 2, 2015.
HELLO, I’M VERONIQUE MASTERSON. HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WHAT’S
HAPPENING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT EL PASO.
### THE HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF EL PASO
AND UTEP ARE ONCE AGAIN COMBINING EFFORTS TO HELP TRANSITION CHILDREN FROM PUBLIC HOUSING
TO UNIVERSITY LIFE. THE SIXTH ANNUAL HIGHER OPPORTUNITIES THRIVE
OR HOT SUMMER CONFERENCE INVOLVES ABOUT 400 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS LIVING IN
PUBLIC HOUSING WHO VISIT THE UTEP CAMPUS FOR ONE WEEK.
DURING THAT TIME, THE STUDENTS TAKE PART IN WORKSHOPS, LEADERSHIP SESSIONS, CAMPUS TOURS,
AS WELL AS COLLEGE AND CAREER AWARENESS CLASSES. (OSVALDO MORALES @1:40) “It’s a good idea
to have the relationship between housing and UTEP so the kids that do not have the resources
to come to UTEP…they could get that experience and experience what UTEP…what you could
do here at UTEP and that could give them a little more motivation to attend.”
### GENERATIONS OF UTEP ALUMNI AND SUPPORTERS
WILL UNITE AROUND THE WORLD Saturday, JULY 11, FOR THE FOURTH ANNUAL ALUMNI PICK-NIC.
EL PASO’S PICK-NIC WILL BE FROM 5 TO 8 P.M. AT MEMORIAL PARK.
THOSE WHO WANT TO ATTEND ARE ASKED TO RSVP TO UTEP’S OFFICE OF ALUMNI RELATIONS BY
Wednesday, JULY 8. FOOD, DRINKS AND ENTERTAINMENT WILL BE PROVIDED.
VISIT ALUMNI.UTEP.EDU TO RSVP. ### FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THESE AND OTHER
STORIES, CHECK OUT UTEPNEWS.COM. I’M VERONIQUE MASTERSON.
