Update: Shevlin Man Dies Attempting to Save His Dogs From House Fire


WEIMANN. A SHEVLIN MAN IS DEAD AFTER A HOUSE FIRE LAST NIGHT IN SHEVLIN, JUST WEST OF BEMIDJI. ACCORDING TO INFORMATION GATHERED FROM THE CLEARWATER COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, MICHAEL WILLIAM NORGAARD HAD COME HOME AND DISCOVERED THE HOUSE FULL OF SMOKE. HE CALLED HIS SISTER AND TOLD HER TO CALL 911. LATER THAT NIGHT FIRE MASHALS FOUND NORGAARD DEAD INSIDE THE HOUSE WITH HIS DOG. CLEARWATER COUNTY DEPUTIES ALONG WITH THE SHEVLIN FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO THE HOUSE FIRE ON ROOSEVELT STREET ON THURSDAY NIGHT AT AROUND 6:35. HIS SISTER TELLS LAKELAND NEWS THAT HE WAS 34 YEARS OLD. FIRE DEPARTMENTS FROM BAGLEY AND SOLWAY WERE CALLED TO ASSIST.>>FIRST ARRIVING FIREFIGHTERS ENCOUNTERED HEAVY SMOKE, AND WHEN THEY CAME TO THE HOUSE, IT HAD TURNED INTO FULLY ENGULFED FLAMES. ACCORDING TO THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL’S INVESTIGATION, HE HAD A DOG WITH HIM WHEN HE WAS RECOVERED. THIS MORNING IT WAS CONSIDERED UNDER CONTROL, AND WE STARTED CLEANING UP THE SCENE JUST REHABBING, BUT WE’RE STILL WORKING IN THE PROCESS OF PUTTING IT OUT.>>AN AUTOPSY WAS SCHEDULED TODAY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA FORENSIC PATHOLOGY IN GRAND FORKS. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME. IT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION BY THE CLEARWATER COUNTY
