I’M JONATHAN GUDEL, HERE AT THE STATE OPERATIONS
CENTER WHICH REMAINS ACTIVATED FOR THE FIFTH CONSECUTIVE
DAY, INITIALLY IN RESPONSE TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY POWER SHUTOFF AND NOW FOR MULTIPLE FIRES IN
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, THE MOST SIGNIFICANT OF WHICH IS THE SADDLERIDGE FIRE BURNING IN
THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY. LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT THE NUMBERS SEVENTY-FIVE HUNDRED ACRES HAVE BURNED, TEN
STRUCTURES HAVE BEEN DESTROYED…BUT CONTAINMENT IS UP TO NINETEEN PERCENT. THOUSANDS OF RESIDENTS, THOUGH, STILL REMAIN
EVACUATED FROM THEIR HOMES. FIVE SHELTERS ARE OPENED IN THE LOS ANGELES
AREA. YOU CAN CHECK RED CROSS LOS ANGELES FOR AVAILBILITY. MORE THAN A THOUSAND FIRE AND LAW PERSONNEL
ARE ON THE GROUND RESPONDING TO THE FIRES. THERE ARE THIRTY FIVE OES ENGINES DEPLOYED
THROUGH MUTUAL AID, ALONG WITH TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY SEVEN FROM LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND
ONE WATER TENDER. WITH RED FLAG WARNINGS STILL IN EFFECT UNTIL
6 P.M. ON SATURDAY, THERE ARE ALSO MORE THAN SIXTY ENGINES FROM STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS
