jukebox hi Nana Judy's pizza Mathis good evening honorable pork president blood via and the USC School Board on Thursday January 31st so our principal Kaitlin Schaeffer informed us that she had to make the tough decision not to return for school year 2019 2020 the majority of our primary campus is deeply saddened by this news our campus is like an airplane at the beginning of the year our students and staff boarded our primary campus plane already knowing our destination preparing our students both academically and socially for the next grade level when Schaeffer came on board is our pilot many of us had anxiety prior to liftoff this was understandable since our school district has had 10 principles in the last five years this incredibly high rate of principals turnover had previously manifested has destroyed relationships of trust between leadership and staff our lift off into the 1819 school year with shakey many passengers were uneasy due to population shifts with previous pilots but as you started to ascend into the school year principal Schafer quickly put our minds in use she took our plane over with the reassurance of support respect and fairness with each action that exhibited these traits the passengers on board slowly began to excel tonight we have several teachers that would like to speak about their experience with Kaitlin Schaeffer as our leader each experience positively highlights the powerful impact she has had at our site we thank you for your time thank you Miss man Leslie yaki [Applause] potable water president libya and the USB school we have been teaching in our district for seven years when Caitlyn Shaffer took over as our principal we immediately notice how she highly encouraged and supported filters in the pack in the past trying to find trying to plant a field trip felt the scourging there were overwhelming amounts of paperwork in addition to complications with funds and transportation principal Schaffer made this process significantly easier and provided as much help as we needed to complete this filter process this has created opportunities for our students that were non-existent before some of our field trips and service projects include trips to the culture museum and archie Hendricks we are also in admiration of how of much Kaitlin Schaefer value students evening our after-school transportation process has been refined to ensure students arrive safely at their destination one of the most significant demonstrations of support that we have witnessed is an increase in career professional support with our challenging students we are greatly appreciative of this because it allows us to focus more on ensuring our entire class is receiving academic instruction that meets that is needed instead of focusing on one students behaviour Schafer is also strive for meeting the needs of our students who are in need of enrichment this year is the first year that we have had the gifted and talented program at our school we were so relieved because our high achieving students finally had an opportunity that aligns with their abilities the enrichment program that has been open to students in grades kindergarten first grade and second grade we feel that our students have long awaited this opportunity and we are so thankful that she / has made us at priorities as a teacher and as a parent I place great value on this opportunity that has been created for our students thank you for giving us the time and space to share with you how critical Caitlyn she burned has been to our primary campus thank you Miss young Amanda drew merits good evening honorable board president Guardia and the USC School Board hi my name is Amanda grammarians I've been here four years and I'm currently teaching first grade at India licensed primary campus our first grade team firmly believes that principal shape replaces the needs of our students as our top priority our team is blown away by the fact that misshape red notes the names of all of her students we have watched her develop impactful and new pull relationships with the students through lunches with the principal and interim assessment celebration parts sometimes she will even come in and just hang out with the students during our lessons there are also times that mache for Hogsmeade home visits we know this because she wants to send a message to families that she highly valued each student and watch them at school she makes herself available to students and families at all times and family cookouts principal Schaffer will say late into the evening to ensure her family's needs are met in our grade level we have also noticed a significant decline in disruptive behaviors we can attribute this to several factors first principal Schaefer has placed a great emphasis on providing professional development using trauma-informed strategies she highly encourages that we utilize these strategies to meet the needs of all of our students we also feel there is greater support in assisting us with challenging student behaviors within the classroom miss April we'll get down to the ground and meet with a student on third level and support the student until they are independently successful in the classroom I appreciate your time and consideration with this man thank you thank you miss who knows Chris the bubble ki body school district for four years and was a third grade teacher during the two thousand seventeen and eighteen school year during the 2017-18 schooler who struggled greatly would try to implement the meet strict curriculum into our classrooms after hearing of our concerns mrs. Shafer allowed us the flexibility creativity and the space to alter the curriculum so that we could develop a more culturally relevant and impactful curriculum for our students throughout the school year students were taught about their local community leaders such as Cipriano manual and students were also exposed to other native cultures which with which they learned about important figures and tribal legends and this made an impact was that made an impact both locally and internationally overall this flexibility in space given to us by principal Schafer helped to contribute to an increased student interest in literature writing and also mathematics which in turn led to a better understanding of material that was presented on the Arizona Merritt state testing this led to an across-the-board increase in our 3rd grade data results involve ela and writing along with mathematics thanks to the actions and her overall knowledge and curriculum development she has been an amazing asset to our school and implementing successful changes to our staff and to our students thank you very much for your time I appreciate thank you somewhere else very well Suton honey opportunity mr. coming [Applause] okay let's go ahead and move on to letter e governing board member reports are there any reports you know that a lot of discussion about what it is to be on the school board just making sure that we understand the law I need that I appreciate that they're constantly going over this information because it's new and trying to understand the rules that go along with it but also with just the opportunity to network with others avoid rumors and learn about that super doing and then the following game we did have order treat and that was really informative because they gave us a time for us to get to know one another and also just talk about how we want to move forward as a board if not I did I did I did just remember that we didn't attend the bolts training and it is a lot of information as far as gathering what we can as a board he learning and continuing to learn and making sure that we are abiding by you know laws that are set forth by the state legislation as well as learning how to better engage with the community I did want to kind of bring the light the retreat that we didn't have it was it was really really good to sit with the board you kind of you know kind of get on the same page as far as us and how we move forward and what needs to happen as far as our collaboration and moving the district forward so I will say that that meeting was actually a real treat to be able to do another forward to talk to any further actions that we do that kind of bring break down the yeah break it down the goals of the district and then implementing them or out of an implementing as a team as opposed to sitting up here and blend the law it's been more collaborative project which I think we all do enjoy I did also attend bubble best as governing board president welcome to the staff High School District that um I think we can honestly say as the board that we are urging that collaborative Ness not only ourselves but overall the district the community the staff everyone that was just to have a city so I just wanted to reiterate that you do have of course the policies or the procedures that need to happen but that doesn't it shouldn't be an obstacle it's just a way to kind of regulate but otherwise I was very good to see a lot of guidance today which is what we have been trying to meet so with that if there are no other reports and between individuals absolutely if I can just occur with me that that sitting in on that guest speaker or the TV are enemies which really good he's doing inside everything yourself the 14 attending or being able to sit in on any more than we can otherwise if there are no other reports we can move on to letter T principals reports it's less responsibility and the purpose of this we had a meeting about it the purpose is that the clinic has been seeing a lot of injury with students by them in going to the dairy animal or playing to breath with any movement in it so to show how to prohibit that so it's only going to be on occasional Wednesdays it's going to go into the classrooms and it's like a big school field trip and it's free to us so permission slips get sent home only those that parent Roque or guardians are okay with participating we'll go to it and it's only about 20 minutes one time one class their unicorn sequence for please have a question is every school responsible for their own line advertising the events or do you guys do collectively there's someone to do that that's great question president Indian so each site is responsible for getting the flood without getting their posted on social media media however they choose to send me information out I was just looking at no that's good okay when you start Garcia classic stop I can hear you can about it but you know this is gonna be a safer yes yes whoa perfect I'm trying to go over that one tonight maybe an idea to have them send it altimeter results anything they can presented no she's talking about the safe zones that me that kind of accent to do okay then we keep the active submit that to dr. Morris and we will review in back to March okay we'll move on to letter F superintendent support doctor in the Morse said we're very excited about our Lady Warriors at Bobby junior high school we've just won their 180 South Region championship title this weekend and the following weekend with the full expectation that these girls will bring home the title they won a second runner-up last last year so we're very excited about that in addition our Special Olympians also took some place places as well recently and so I want to congratulate need to be the special Olympian coaches and the director David Randall for making sure that our students also compete and some some hyperlinks so congratulations start special Olivia was really exciting to little folks training employees and nice to see new board members attend the Arizona School Boards Association straining and all the new things that come up regarding our board policy there are hundreds and hundreds of board policies that in the terms of a board member they're not going to get to all of them but the nice thing is that we can always review policy if something doesn't fit our community or our particular needs the board has the right to take a look at them in movies in which we do continuously so excited that the board was able to attend that and will continue to attend what we actually got I'll be with the entire board from Wednesday through Friday attending our equity event which is sponsored through ASB a so we're excited to be part of that as a matter of fact our our sunrise house is actually going to be recognized I put in an application for that program to be recognizing so they will be recognized yet this week so we're excited about that along with the attendance on the poll that came out in Arizona Republic so before answering members are really excited to learn more about that so it'll be presented some time during the conference so very delicious to our sunrise house because a lot of work and our board retreat again just reviewing strategic plan and their board role so my new governing board is ready and set for summer retreat because they look at making some changes to our strategic plan for next year always excited to go to rodeo I was a judge this year and I was just I told the the committee that I was going to be biased their corks with us without floats and our wonderful floats and engines that were involved in our parade and so I want to congratulate the first place our primary campus they won first place went to our secondary campus why then high school lady warriors so I just want to remind the board that president Randy and I will be taking our annual and APHIS trip to Washington this will be his first trip we are making many many meetings with our Hawks and Senate as we speak this is the National Association for federally impacted schools conference they do it every September every March as we're getting ready as the administration the Trump administration is getting ready to review budgets and we're always in Washington to make sure that we make fire our feelings and our words knowing that impact aid is really important to us it's one third of our budget and so if we didn't have it we wouldn't be able to have the things that we do so we've been very fortunate to have it for the years that we've had it me just continue to fight so it'll be a good learning experience for our core president as we make our mission trip an update on our construction so our construction project manager is on-site at the primary campus today to look at the ground breaking to start adding the two classrooms to the 400 green so they're well on their way to getting started you'll see more and more activity there as you pass by Main Street in front of the school as the months go by so we're still projected to have that particular building 400 completed by June 30th our culinary kitchen is taking a little bit longer we're having some trouble with plumbing and so they're working on that and so our projected date to open up this month is not as in Harvey if you push back to April so we'll have to wait on that and then just another shout out for bottles guests the teachers were surveyed each year and they always like to see their own teachers you know they're all present so torched our Babu's vents our focus was on trauma informed practices so dr. Cox from Texas Christian University always does a great job and then he also paid for the 200-plus lunch lunches for from 1586 so that was appreciate that and then in the afternoon our own teachers and our own district staff actually presented ended some sessions with me watching and ferb and teachers were allowed to select what they wanted to attend so again it's a lot of works on I think Jennifer three kids for putting all that together and so that excludes all my reports any questions for dollars if not thank you dr. Morris we can move on now to letter G director support thank you so we have Kevin Raveena's our director of transportation who's here to deliver his report on transportation my president members the board dr. Morris thank you for having this evening transportation it has been pretty heavy since we started this school year we have had run with our school bus drivers of thinking we're getting up to where we're going to clap toe was enough to cover a day without having to double up a driver and then it just seems to backslide so anyhow we have had some issues here those last couple months especially these last two weeks with driver resigning we have also had funerals or drivers have to attend family members and we have been running behind the scenes like you could not believe to get our students here lately if my drivers who are here right now I would commend them again and thank them and I want you guys to be just an appreciative of business I am they are working wonders worse right now even though there are minimal inconveniences that might upset a lot of people we have done a miraculous movement on getting our students to school and we're gonna have a breakdown on this right now can you see the number of drivers that we have and our students that we move with are miles I was right alright so moving on the school year we started up in July and this year we be starting up a bit starting that buses wrong wrong covered the only potential you have this summer at the very beginning of the year is that it was a hot summer and buses are filled with students and these children are cops parents calling and they complain they say that the a/c systems are not working but they are it's just that a good part of our fleet was purchased unit and the used buses were not to our specs that we did not order them so in the front of the bus and in the back of the bus we have an air-conditioned and that's what's supposed to cool the buses I have a picture that I'll show you in a second all right okay the picture that you see there the one that has the yellow boarding underneath that those are the months that have the Guinness in the front in the back you're looking at the AC unit that's in the back those black bands on the very top yes right there that's all that there is and identical in the front to blow air to cool a 35-foot bus with 72 kids if they're working you just cannot make it work any better than what it's designed to do it's just an inadequate design for buses here that might work well up in Montana but it doesn't work down here in Arizona okay the other bus these are the ones that we stepped out and as you can see running all the way along from front to back we have a ducted network that hits every seat also the compressors on these buses that move the freon that makes the air cold are twice the size of the other buses and that's just on one AC compressor so there are differences there and over the complaints that we have but there's not much we can do about that just to let you guys know if the complaints are coming again on for our new school year something to keep in mind we started off this school year and we received two new buses in less 37 and 38 these are the largest school buses in the industry right now they're on a three hundred three inch bolt base which in essence is two feet longer than any other school bus that's out there today these statistical buses right here also are equipped with the largest AC system that the market offers today we also received our new teachers bus we have a white bus that you guys might remember that bus our teachers around okay that bus is a 2008 it has three hundred thousand miles on it we still have it today can we use it as a backup for reasons but that lesson now retired and replaced with this one my strategy of us going back into a school bus instead of a white commuter is that we do halt students in from Tucson and from all the years in the past they would also Ford the white bus but I got clearance I spoke to the Department of the Department of Public Safety they are our superiors but we have to answer to for our school bus drivers our certification and to follow their rules and regs to keep our buses rolling okay so they are just one in the chain of length of the chain as to us going into the yellow bus with teachers and students aboard so I spoke to DPS the lieutenant there the sergeant I spoke to the Department of Ed and I got all of our students and teachers to be compliant in the same unit on a daily basis and a school bus so what does that mean in short it is making us eligible for route miles so whenever my student on hundredth day we can claim those not miles to and from Tucson which we have never done before the senators being in hope we are now creating revenue driver shortage to assist our driver shortage issue we use bus ace to help out by driving small white buses right now without them again they are just as strong as this bus drivers on pulling it all together together Salinas here we are recruiting we have tried just about everything I think that we've ever tires on the radio we have not there on the martini and the parking lot on Facebook there is a transportation administrators Association website that I have it on participated in the job fair at the desert diamond and when we have the America on main or significant very on a miracle I mean I have the bus up there and I recruit there so some of things like that that we get ourselves out there and we're trying our best to get more drivers in and for the retention okay we need to do something because we are not conveniently located as such as to sanyas you know that's what we're making metropolis there it's all within a city out here it's different because well we all know how do we the teachers and how do the drivers say okay it's it's not really that easy so for us to be able to recruit I have had calls I have come in from Eloy Casa Grande juice on and they want to know okay I am interested but would you guys also need to know for us to start our getting a driver starts at 4:45 in the morning and if I'm trying to hire a bus driver that's going to come out of juice on the drive this or 45 route they're going to be up getting ready to a clock good morning so we need to offer something to them where they can stand up here there is no house enduro rentals we need to kind of come together with some kind of a strategy maybe we could have a couple units at the fishbowl for drivers or something you don't discuss the later date but we needed to have something here so I can drop these try percent so they could stay Monday through Friday and then they can go to juice on you one thing to do and then they can't remember just like the teachers do the park doors are severe where they're not going to commit to this because we have kids here in the morning they have this long break during the midday where they just sit out there in a double while you can tell the afternoon for us to start p.m. shift who wants to do this for a year it's not fun okay and then they get on that right home and on the right moment starts at two o'clock they get off the bus and then they pop into the bus that goes for the sport trips on the activities home and then they get home they get off work about as late as 8:30 so for them to quit punch out at 8:30 you they're driving to two songs another hour later they don't have any home time you know what I mean they hang up the phone on me whenever I tell them that there's no place here for them so it kind of makes it a little difficult difficult to so it kind of put them also two of them equal as our teachers are for being eligible for our housing name what can't they be put on the list too you know they are very important people here without our drivers I don't know that the teacher would be doing – it does I don't think there'd be any student industry so please consider our drivers to give them some recognition okay earlier it's time you clean up a little bit about the drivers and how we are blowing going together to get everybody here there are some few inconveniences out there that we are facing by hitting teachers with by hitting some coaches with by having to eliminate the teachers bus one day or we're happy to eliminate sports practice this is one we only have a few drivers but we service 31 2008 911 students are transported to our schools daily our buses have traveled 250 3,500 miles transporting students to and from school over the first 100 days extracurricular and athletic events have traveled twelve thousand 19 miles over our first 100 days this was all accomplished with an understaffed Department the drivers and the states have done a superior job of putting teamwork into motion of transportation step is in my office there's myself I have an office manager a dispatcher and one mechanic our mechanic let me tell you these games we LT is awesome right now he's not only taking care of all of the diesel fleet kids taking care of every white vehicle out there that we have from the high schools mr. West all the way to every vehicle that is under Carlos and what we have down there in our yard as well he is overworked he does an awesome job same as with a dispatcher now this manager most drivers I have eight right now and with those eight we are again working the miracles I told you to run books that we get these kissters or from our nation is 400 that's you 4200 square miles so we run a lot it is a big nation we have the saints bus eights have been added to our our team here lately we have just hired on three of them so that's putting us into a more comfortable position to work we're having aids on our buses now to where they're going to be placed with the students that require their IEP that we're supposed to have that we didn't have in the past we're getting there we're becoming compliant this is our team driver's innings we didn't know what that was doing to us so we currently a staff night bus drivers for additional bus drivers are needed and one much driver is needed three additional routes and the bus age will be required once we are fully staffed with bus drivers we have 18 buses on our fleet we have three baby buses that are the type 80 and then we have the conventionals we have five of those types C school buses these are 2012 2014 model years and we have two of these units bus 30 and 31 that have over 250,000 miles on them for the new year that they are and four of the school year that is a lot of miles of those kids traveling those buses safely and those buses the type C's are the ones that have the AC units on the front of the basketball kit those are the ones that ever purchased used we have eight type D school buses and three of those are 15 years old we have two special ed buses with full Charis bolts wagon I don't know if you guys have heard the medication that they have due to the EPA and the lawsuit that they were hit with okay volkswagen was hit by the epa were falsifying the emissions reports i believe it was in 2014 to 2017 they were putting a brand new vehicle stating that they met the EPA's requirements on their admissions for exhaust and they won't they didn't so they got sued and with the funding that was awarded to the EPA from Volkswagen is being distributed to states where there are only two municipalities as well as sitting municipalities were dump trucks and school buses and ambulances so I went ahead and I'm seeing this after good men we don't jump on this we will never know will not talk to Jose we both got on it I got all the information we needed we submitted the application and we were supposed to know in November who were going to be awarded any of these monies because we're the Swope us they were going to fewer lauded a less if you're eligible each bus receives one hundred ten thousand dollars towards the purchase of a new bus so you know this is something that we just did not let the white we applied November came why we did not make the round one round two came around in January the first part of January we were not on the list so talk about just filling this runt hole all right I made a call just to find out what's going on look at application see what's going on we inputted our application just as they wanted but there was just one problem that they were not able to see so I really submitted that form two of them they said you're in compliance we made it we are on round three we have been awarded this morning I checked my email and from the Arizona Department of Administration grants they congratulated us we are awarded two hundred and twenty thousand dollars to purchase tuning buses or we have that's a pretty good work there that's about it that takes us up to date right now I open for questions but not darts Thank You mr. Ramirez I do appreciate that I did um make the request to have you present to the board want to be today on I know you had to send a report recently but I want to have you come back in questions for me the certified Westerners the list of the eight are they going through some kind of certification no you know their choice is to stay as a they don't want to be certified that's correct yes today we're we're looking for a birthday with what we know bus drivers and half a lot of AIDS and I think that with the continued moving forward with trying to help the community help themselves to be their heroic roles than this I'm wondering why they want to be certified I have two drivers that are less aged drivers in training that would be Ruben norc's and viola Anthem so they are going to be working into what you're saying crossing over but there are the only ones out of all the rest of them the other ones have some personal reasons they took the personality so then dr. Morris tickets back to LME's question early selling these original what is it I tend to talk about what is the gender occupation we are and mr. arenas and I have been in conversations about making it kind of adding adding which would be a change in our in a construction project so I did offer to him you know that whole areas will be renovated with the full kitchen bathrooms showers and so if we didn't kind of like a fire department that has those really funny rooms in there that we've been equipped with a bed and a dresser you know that would be something that would be a private think so that's up for consideration as well in regards to housing currently we have five teachers that are currently on the waviness with three apartments that are going through a renovation due to a recent news and so once those are renovated then that still doesn't completely with the teachers at Lord has approved them in the passes for teachers and administrators and so there just simply isn't enough housing and so there would have to be a you know some thought leader session when it she you know building we as an administrative team that talked about that what that looks like you know potentially putting in studios in between the PLCC campus because intermediate and being so close maybe there's an area mistake some studios in there and then if teachers are not they're not waiting that's what teachers then that could be a recommendation with you are not classified in there I don't think you'll be reading it without ready for it but you know if you do it'll balance but right now because we have certified movie units it makes it difficult for me to say yes the concept right now also well cue Barry parents about the highest pay scale or certified drivers we start our drivers at $18 an hour to go down to Tucson you're looking to find penny school that will be 1315 hour that's why they could response to the calls but whatever their hope there is no housing out here that menifee towards them but also they say well I've got my camp trailer I could stay in where can i partner in the cap trailer Tuesday I don't think we that's all I was just kind of talking that out dr. Marrs – we have plenty of land out there by the Transportation Building and the old oil acts where we could just put some slabs out there run some utilities as if we even had it's ready to fly out there three to five drivers to our department is a major assistance so we are looking at convenience of our be with us as well mrs. Kelly that she had was a result of exit so if I think this reminded word our policies regarding the fact that you are in a in a meeting of the governing board in a public setting so especially to the audience may not be expected so but now that we put the question you can direct the superintendent to answer that okay only because we stacked it up I suspect these muscles out the largest AC and compressors available okay the other ones were just bought used because they were at a good price so now that some of those are ready to be retired like I said you know even though they're 2014 they have 250,000 miles of stop and go stop and go something go and they have the inadequate AC unit so we're going to just have this issue over and over every summer but now they have to live their life to speak word they aren't ready to be put in a rotation time of we need to just get into a rotation programmer so you haven't had before to where we get rid of the old buses we'll get rid of the high mileage buses you know and keep our current fleet to newer model years we're just going to keep our expense costs down to where we're not just in nickels and dime or $100 and down to the dollars beaten with the repairs of lesson safer okay and inviting you back for that just says you've got the news that we'd receive the grant money you know it must listen toxin twenty to ten thousand dollars at a quarter to two hundred thousand around me one that you don't just get them off a lot it takes one who back to actually yeah but the ones we have got just like nine ten months so knowing that knowing that those buses that have that food in the back we are going to run into the summer months with those unfortunately that we are looking to replace those and we just cannot replace them you know all at the same time so I've asked the director to put together a plan that kind of cycles through the buses knowing that you know just about every year they're going to come to the board to ask for a Grammy bus at $200,000 it's very costly but knowing that you do have you know it's under a lot of strain on our members and our systems and so it has to be replaced we have a position that is an apprentice so the only position we have to assist Robert down there would be somebody who's coming in to help but they've only $11 to change an hour so it's just like a helper maybe an oil change or something like that tire changer okay if there aren't other questions I do want to more than likely at the yes for agenda item possibly a study session to see how much hey we can do this artist all the diseases you'll art being adamant about her passionate about see how we came together we need to be what our time and as well as it does give the opportunity for others to attend and speak as opposed to you in December which is a lot more studio so thank you for putting this together so quickly I do appreciate it and for the information is very I know I tried to look up in my own time you know anything going on as far as legislation as far as transportation and you do because it is it's part of our part of the success of the students is giving it to school if we can't do that we do welcome you to connect along my budget right at any time see where these kids live see what they got cochlear perfect okay thank you for that communication everything okay Thank You mr. mayor thank you moving onto letter each coaches and Club sponsors thank you put it at the end so just for your information I'm have a following people listed for book sponsors and for athletics there any questions if man thank you dr. Morris or what you need to mention the workers we can belong to better I financial report misconduct in the club good evening president Medina board members and dr. Martens the reporter front of you is for student activities or through the month of January there was no checks at work that went out fixing them titties who there was a breakfast burrito sales for the class of 2020 their deposits class of 2025 concession sales FFA have beverages snacks nails the hspace won't have concessions and and that increased 1,200 and then for students abilities VHS x3 the admissions fees and then they cut going up the whole town and then they have a transparent BHS auxilary mother and then the net decrease was too the sale of my Virginia took that aside the bubble best I was learning they were selling Bibles away yeah for the year there any questions any questions so if somebody donates to a school they could specify to a specific school they can specify to a specific club or they can just say where it's needed the most and you can see there's like there that's ugly and if that's the case if the student removes already their site wants to use that whatever money they have to go through site so just to provide an example so the first section is to the primary campus so you can see the amount of money that was put in for each calendar year three years ago 2016-17 a peak and you can see for example a donation was made just a filter so that means that the school cannot use it for anything else except for what it says for purchase on and then you can go down the way and see that like this one right here says four hundred dollars it was donated only for the preschool so that means that they cannot use it to purchase items for kindergarten first or second grade it's falling you're gonna do if you go down at the very bottom where it says there's a need some things are our taxpayers actually okay we're just going to give it to the school doesn't matter where you put it so we just put it in what we call a need categories so each school is required to have a site council they are required to meet monthly they are required to have a principal parent of certified and classified Network and the site Council is the one that determines the any proposals that come forward from the school and so if they need that the proposal is found they defended the law of tax credits and how you can use the money then the fight council of determinants and votes come if that those monies can be expected and so what Clementina is saying here there's a lot of tax money the principals are aware and they make the decision we don't tell them how to spend it but they make the decision based on items but there are there's no choice another venture so the use of the funds will be continued to be determined by the SEC Council so let's specify I'm not soon or utilized so what what the balances sit then if no one needed it so the students are they have their accounts and they have their balances and they know that in particular items areas they can they can only use it from though its designee if the other need they can go and do their site capital and ask for any of any or all of those funds but those funds that are specific what they would just say I'd like to use it like this to see process which is big submit a requisition makes them in a form for tax credits both through the process and then it gets turned into a feel right so underneath its specific although they've expanded in a little bit this year but it used to be only character education extracurricular activities because I only asked because why would we have funds that we don't need if they're meant to be well each type can use these funds I know they're looking at it right now they know their balances so they can take this money and use it as they need but underneath they can not use it unless they've gone through their site councils to ask for the money okay I understand the need but like Satan uses TS over donated and then they stop or can they be used for anything related to music so the friends up concert any orchestra used to donate when I was principal thousands and thousands of dollars like fourteen to twenty thousand dollars a year and it was because they wanted our children to go to the center our kids to go to the ballet they want to be wanted ordered TSO to come to our school and do small workshops and clinics with our our kids in the middle and the high school so when that wasn't happening afterwards then they just kind of stopped donating the money it's really hard you know for you know to come in and you know dictate to kids you guys are going to go to the symphony and so it started out with hundreds and hundreds of kids and that every year it kind of just diminished and it took just a lot of work to pull that off and then transportation was part of that problem G because you know they're they're out an event for the whole thing and they can't be in English but another great city better get that driver back in order to pick up our acting it well so there was a lot of issues involved in in why that money was in but we wanted the board to see this because you know the river we wanted you to know that there are a lot of taxpayers that really support barbecues in the site and they do it in their own way in their own and you know however they feel you know the learning disability but I also wanted you to be aware that in the category but it does have to go through a process it's just not you know I want to take that money or go spend it on you know supplies are paper for of my teachers it can't do that they have to look at the site counsel to get it approved under the tax rate guidelines of just athletics extracurricular character education and they disapprove tackle equipment this year and they test and test me test polish testing her HDDs ap so those were expanded this year I actually as soon as we get the money we have to provide them with everything in February we have to report to that everything to listening no other questions and there are several categories that are in the negative it's it's over budget with the occurrences that I know that will have to be some expenditures or encumbrances one over this is dying so you could see there that the improvements are swinging mm to figure out when 289 is IDE again right now we're not negative and then first things first one for sexy right but we're not making it yet that's just it's 50 any questions no questions miss Clara thank you very much these are number five information items we'll move on now to action items discussion impossible sorry letter a discussion impossible cool to activate the second team bucket into position for in nineteen twenty twenty square missed a safety net depending the president went a year 34 thousand or so the requests that I have today it is to reopen a second yoga teacher position we previously had and so really it's just to alleviate the peaceful that Mister that we certainly mr. Nina's house cuz he services seventh through twelfth grade students and the overall goal as I wrote in my level is you know we really want to expand that you know the program at our campus and in order to do that we need more teachers and you know I have to speak vision I'll put it of what it'll be you know in the next few years but this is a step in the right direction what the classes what additional classes will offer I'll kind of depends on the individual that comes into that into that position totally question this time is to have the puppeteer executive campus reopen the rich position and allow the posting of excitement here that feature or the 1920 school year and screaming yes the funding for the second Jimmy that we have title seven which is a good indication it will cover a teacher per se you know because our it just depends if they're certified or not typically deramian toxifying until they take the language text and if they take a little step and pass it you can place them on the certified salary schedule so it just depends on the hiring process that difficulty dam is going to be following and so if it's classified we might have an overall fun even if it's not then we always pull it out of our they've had a funny what hmm well because of my never changes because that the position was ripped on the last time we have to offer a good job to the last individual that held it but it's not then we do have an interesting candidate risk as in reduction so it's keeping with our automation of executive education department we have certified teachers there's a fool there as well you said that the there they're classified into different direction so these are individuals that do not have any degrees whatsoever but the Arizona Department of Education they've approved an indigenous language certification which means if they can't ask depending on the nation and that they did on they have to tax a series of assessments and once they passed off then they get a letter from the proclamations executive office that then is just give it to the Arizona education certification unit and that they're certified that's all we need in order to place them on the certified schedule and they don't have to have any any college so they could come in with no college and still come in at 51 six like we do a first year teacher I noticed them and if you walk in in the middle you're referencing reduction in force with a bang teacher to support the salary of the second occupation position it's how is enrollment drop how does that is what would I just prompt you to make that I'm currently our band position only services 46 students out of 300 our white bands on the other hand services 126 units so there is a big difference and that's why what the reduction of course is for the band program it's because we weren't servicing enough students and mr. Nina's I thought I'd get put in on the amount of student section off services but this is about 130 like Austria in 135 days so I've seen the trend there that is our students are interested in more team about classes and events all those in favor bori motion carries on to letter B discussion and possible and they will openly classifying the Dean of Students to assistant principal of operations and student services in Tennessee accident okay so earlier this afternoon a different see the question from governing board member Vance I'm gonna leave that pass on to all of you as well in terms of Vidya that cost breakdown cuz I know that was a concern so so really the the idea of a kindness that's right now we have the Dean of Students position who's a teacher contract in addition to that PHP 23 additional days to do work as me that throughout the year and then in addition to that he also received a second for the Athletic Director position and so the idea is to combine the all of the positions into one because really if our D chose not to do the athletics directly it would be given to someone else with the second and so I took that down is the cost to kind of clarify so while on paper there is an increase in salary there is an increase in contract fees as well once thirty-two and ten minutes later so the breakdown kind of it's the daily rate becomes less than what it was and so you know I really wanted to combine it into one position that way because I have to keep track of the 23 days for him to work because he hope he gets all of the bricks off in addition he's currently enrolled in an educational leadership program at the northern University at Northern Arizona University and you know I would really like to support this group as an administrator within the district because I feel like in my role that it's that is what I'm supposed to do with different leaders especially opera leaders in our district and so while you know everything would be smushed into one he'd be a 12-month employee then no longer a 10-month employee plus 23 days so my request needs to be reclassified to to support him as an educational leader because you know ultimately he does have goals to become a principal and sister principle work is important and so this would be until the next school year okay I just I just I guess I questioned to increase in salary which is actually a decrease in salary and the among work that's going to be added to the position I was trying to weigh the increase in salary the workload that can be added to that position but the way it's broken down that's actually decreasing and I kind of just copy what's the catch bula wanna apply for a position but more Whitlam less money more school time less money kind of dirty off like that but what's the catch I do understand mr. Benson is to the scrolling but I'd like to know for myself why I needed to see that justification at this to make sure that he understands that the work load is gonna increase and e-commerce gonna decrease and that just didn't make sense so we actually talked about it and so he understands but that's kind of what happens when you take an admin position because that's what happened to me when I became a school improvement specialist I didn't end up making a whole lot more because it had at least for me as well so he understands though the expectation and the work that I would like to have happen at our campus and he's on board with that and you know sometimes it's not about the money it's about you know growing in inexperience because that's that's what we're here to do thank you the email that was sent and I apologize if you guys didn't receive it but what Kathy Ann asked for was a description of its current job description and then the like I see I know we have the description of the SFM crispity I don't have I don't have to duck reception for the students I'm sorry the Dean of Students is basically assistant principal in charge of discipline in facilities with just it's just on a teacher contract because they don't have an actual certification and so once they move into certifications and they can be moved into a clockwise position with with everything that this individual strength is doing so if this makes sense for the principal to wrap it all up into into one and it just elongates without having extra pieces I knew at the time that I need you now it's pretty clear-cut I need you there life is you of course all 12-month employees not just administrators and all 12 of the deployments also get vacation they're not like teachers teachers don't get vacation pay to get personal time but all 12-month employees that's the sodium's groundskeepers they get personal time and vacation time because we run into the ground they need to be able to take some time so those will be better than incentive for this position as well the question was to reclassify the requests of course from principles to damage to reclassify the deal of students between all my words into the assistant principal of operations so administrative Li you know schools can do that if they feel there's this person is a good fit it's a good you know mix as well in it good they could do that but also the answer board member Hendricks question who's already in canvas go out it can go out can't go out but that's not the desire of the flexible at this time they want it just reclassified from this fair position to assistance meets the criteria it really is a good policy to really promote from within and they were going on it allows you to look at individual employees that have served you know the students will have served the community must have shown not a lot of people say to the district but certainly loyalty to the years of service by continually to stay here you know travel back and forth in some cases also it's because they're also to open a key positions within the district and I know what is his end goal is I know what he wants to do in terms of leadership and I he's been amazing this year and then you know I have a really solid leadership team and you know I really want to keep it intact as much as I can motion captain event ii enemies things are less in favor aye motion passed passes thank you okay literacy discussion impossible pool of the change of the fy2014 professional highway schedule and fy2014 on your salary schedule miss Clementina Carlotta okay so this was from so firstly they did not have one so the only change was to add that right for additional and everything else was pretty slender and then HR also added a Sony schedule or let escape from the teacher salary but they're not a teachers and so teachers get put in it from different buckets they cut the property to one money and from the teacher sellers they don't do not get so she just created a felony schedule to make it easier so this is really your certified people that are not teaching for example you're easier but those that they get paid just like a teacher then we put them on a teacher salary schedule but there's not action TG so there's the P DS when we broken up under the teacher salary schedule the teachers do have their different buckets among them we have to audit if they have to look at it there just to help our HR department put it in the right bucket so it's happening right now on your screen are there any other questions for the eyewriter motion to approve item agree sir second captain max all those in favor aye opposed not voting motion carries letter do you provoke defeat of the diesel mechanic a guy this color so there are no changes on this one so just put the board's information the paid great places placement did not change there I will stick for your information and then the that made ads for each of these particular jobs are because they don't fit on the regular phosphites our schedule have no changing on it the difference between pts and OTS is a factor that physical therapist on we needed for 80 days versus an occupational therapist we needed further most of the year that's why there's a difference in faith and then of course the athletic and club sponsor schedule is also listed for approval so as we start a new year we're able to have that ready to fill and then we had to do a bus driver change this past year because we did bump up the beginning hourly rate significantly for our bus drivers so all those are being requested for the questions okay these very special Beauty 8:4 here these are these are for coaches and club sponsors this is anybody that wants to poach a sport or sponsor a club I guess I have a question on the the difference the amount five six seven push pin so if you see on level five these are all middle school and high school positions and then there is just one elementary assistant position for spirit mind that was out of in years ago we no longer have that in there but we don't remove on this the case somebody wants to resurrect that into their program high school programming and the Special Olympics is being much more involved than high school or outside of their school elementary club and so these are typically higher paid because of the work involves at the high school and high school level within club sponsors is different Club sponsored verses like a senior sponsor senior has to plan all the fundraising for the end of the school year all their senior trip and so it just involved it's just a lot more involved and then the middle school and elementary cook sponsors they don't they they are not required to do fundraisers they are we're clean and if so they could have some extra curricular activities although there are some that that do do some fundraisers but not to the level at a high school but would do it so that's why that was quite a place years years ago it's not anything that we've changed in alignment with other school districts that we the same and there are ours is high pain like some there are many schools in Arizona that have elementary club sponsors and there's no pain they just do it because they want to have a club so we added the elementary club sponsors and just past couple of years because that wasn't on there before yeah further questions all those in favor opposed motion carries on to letter e approval of the 2019 2020 certified Saturday schedule Thank You president the authority board members so the salary schedule has not changed from last year other than xbm if the board doesn't move the calendar tonight right here it will be a hundred a student contact days post 24 professional development day six holidays so the teachers are not losing anybody I did want to bring to the attention that some some teachers bring up every single year and every year we try to explain it as best we can that just so you know for the for the sake of the board here I'm going to do my best so the subtotals these are these items right here if I'm law we have to put them in there we're doing professional development date and they're not being paid because they're not teaching or require to put those days in the contract so we can show that that they are being paid outside their instructional time under Indian Gaming fund is 20 we have to took that money and certain amount of money into a future salaries we don't have to put it into any style affects anybody else a salary except teachers that's why we get the money if we get out of it and they find out that all the money that we got was went into the superintendent salary we would be in big trouble so it has to bill being too sorry can't be put into anybody else's and then under proposition 301 this is where the teachers might hit some confusion here you see that it's listed 11 funds 11 and 13 and as I did my presentation last month there are three funds fund eleven twelve and thirteen so twenty eleven and thirteen by law by Arizona revised statutes we have to put a money into the base salary that's non-negotiable the state requires us to do that we have to put it into their their contracted amount you see that 512 is missing that is the individual performance plan money that we get and the plan that you approved last month that allows us to give the teachers based on their goals which a minute an additional amount of money it looks like it's probably going to be you know about twenty five hundred dollars this coming year we don't have that set amount yet so that's where maybe the confusion lies because it's the same amount and so teachers might be feeling like you know that's that is my money and I why is that added in there it's not it's an addiction to that's all you wanted to make it real clear that funds eleven and fifteen with clarified by law to be placed up to the contracted amounts so we're asking you before tonight the salary schedule allows us to actually do contracts and any questions felonies for motion to prove a second all those in favor I suppose not waving motion carries letter F discussion and possible approval of the proposal proposed fiscal year 2019 2020 classified salary schedule Thank You president what the end only important member so there is a change here it's really tightly someone to make this camera so you can see that because of our proposition 206 the state accept that everybody have to raise their minimum wage by just $12 by the anywhere in 2020 because we are in a unique situation where our fiscal years blend years it does make sense we've been doing this for the past few years to go ahead and have a governing board of food six months prior the amount so when we do our work agreements with our classified personnel we start out July 1 maybe twelve dollars and then we don't have to go back in enjoy have approved by law so we get like an extra six months of an extra 50 cents an hour and so it just makes for our hours that so we are asking with the Governing Board who the classified stick presented with the minimum wage starting at $12 we do my work any discussion so yeah Hendrick second all those in favor aye Bo's not voting motion carries letter G discussion impossible to love the 2019 2020 barbecue the Unified School District calendar dr. ed Nemours thank you president would he have any more members so you have before you a memo requesting that we first draft based on the data that district shepherd Jennifer Enriquez presented as well as our Dean of Students Fred Benson they were headed a calendar Council and so the staff and parents had an opportunity to vote and that beating was presented to the board last month so ago need to visit that that there was an 208 calendar available modified 180 year and the one that was most highly desired was the one that we're looking at on the screen and so we are recommending that the board approve the the draft was presented with 180 days with 24 professional development days for the night change or the school year as presenters Thank You dr. Marrs any any discussion on the if man second motion and receivin second captain events all those in favor nice opposed not voting motion carries dr. words we said the one that was so what we'll do is everything that's listed you know IRT the instructional leadership team meets together to go over all next year thank you letter dates approval of the 2019 2020 certified renewals dr. anymore thank you president what is that we need we remember so I worked with the principles throughout the year to take a look at who is going to be recommended for renewal for next year so I'm not pulling that this up for you no personnel reasons but you've all had a chance to take a look at the list anyone that is not on the list has been noticed and so we are recommending that the certified renewals that are listed before you'd be accepted for the next one in school year are there any questions to the item on the agenda if amanda has a motion tell me this word motion second captain that's follow the fader I suppose loading motion carries letter I approval of the 2019 2020 classified renewal stock tip at numerous thank you for the vehicle ready for dinner so you have the list of all the classified manuals there is no one on the list it was given an honorable death so all of our our ebooks are coming back excited to see them back in ready to work with our children for next year so we're asking that be during work through the classified realness is presented in the 1920 school year motion Kathleen events second oh ma jeepers all those in favor aye opposed not voting motion carries on to our item J which was added the extra duty CR tutor member Thank You president would be at W board members so this item has pulled out as they sent agenda so I have to be I'm here that's going to explain the requirement in the four reactors will to the recovery request I don't understand there are some questions about this I'm just – each in mind I know we have up there 28 seniors who are taking online classes that does not mean they're not graduating they're just enrolled in an online class so um so I what I did just because I can work shared with me that they would be concerned about this I kind of just put together some information for you in regards to the online class challenges that we have we did switch over from Odyssey where to edgenuity this year and that has purpose has become it's a it's a really rigorous online program and it requires you to complete each module before you move on to the next one with our previous ones you can kind of slip on answers and even if you fail it would let me go on to the next class assignment so the teachers and staff are learning some this move system as well as our students so that piecing is a little bit slower than do it like staffing this has been a big issue for us our online teacher was on medical leave from about mid-november to the end of the semester and so with that we have to put a long-term stuff in there and he's not very tech savvy so our assistant principal curriculum and instruction and our guidance counselor we're the ones going in and grading and unlocking assignments as needed which is kind of a disconnect providing that support for the academic piece and then the other the other challenge it was inherit scale credit recovery we ran into a lot of issues and we started looking at the master schedule we actually said were already significantly efficient and credits that had to make up a lot and the schedule for dual enrollment last year contracted with four courses that they needed to take during their junior year and so if some of our seniors are teeing junior classes because they didn't have the opportunity to do it near you and then we have some students that were enrolled in four-part process for whatever reason and so some of them are taking those courses like health for the first time online and then when we made the transition from odysseyware to edgenuity students are given a deadline black school year to complete the Cox and Odyssey where if they do want to have to restart it in agility because there's no way to align both of that to ensure that they were taking the same thing or picking up where they left off and so some students had to go back a little ways so one of the things some of the things that we work on to provide solutions we created a 40 year track which basically means each freshman and then first we take a set of classes sophomores take a set of classes and it goes all the way to senior year to ensure that we're enrolling this hits in the same classes every single year because there were some kids that we're taking freshman classes as a junior but we didn't understand why but you know so we're trying to get that on track so there's consistency with the enrollment process because we noticed that there was a significant need and nine o'clock see what we ended up doing is collecting our math intervention classes we had a teacher designated our math interventionist we collapsed his classes in order to have him support in the online class because he's a math teacher and we have a lot of kids who are taking math cox's we thought he would be a good fit for him to support those kids with math instead of having a long term sub that was kind of just a warm body in the hot tunas inhibition I know one of the issues came up about how we can prevent this from happening and actually in this coordinate dr. Morris and I have our team X in implementing a credit recovery system to catch kids before they become so efficient and credits so this year we started with seniors in the upcoming school year looking at sophomores and juniors as well it just depended on the space that this apartment has at first sight and we set thresholds and so if students don't have an X amount of credits by the end of that year they recommended to go to alternative and when they catch up then they can come back to us when we just pick up where they left off and then lastly we do have to have internet access at home but don't have a device or computer so we have approved some seniors to take home laptop to complete their homework too so this is just to supplement the kids that don't count devices don't have any and to help them give them more time to complete their online course any questions oh sorry yes so we have 26 that are on track to graduate out of 39 we have two students who right now for their double-click they will be graduates and so then we have 12 students who fail the semester one class and are now making up an in semester two and you notices have gone home to those families off to let them know that because their student failed their clocks in the first semester there's a chance they may not graduate if they don't make up that credit on an online or independent study because we don't have an online course for Native American Studies you have to go independent but independent city 13 students are taking an online class for the first time so it's not credit recovery it's their first time home being exposed to the curriculum of the class and you have 11 students that are missing multiple credits but should be finished by quite graduation and that just based on looking at their progress and ingenuity and saying how far they are in in their coursework and then we've had 11 students who completed online classes so far this year no hope just you know not ready for the amount of credits that they would need to graduate this year it's just wanna be sociable but it doesn't mean they can't come back as a fifth year senior we do actually have a student in our senior classes our fifth year seniors so he can so the school wasn't it's not that it wasn't I know miss coordinates at capacity and so they opened up that third classroom and so our guidance how they're supposed to be getting in contact with her to see if she can take our two seniors so who determines like this when the kids get into their senior year or even when do they start finding out what Craig credits they're lacking or what they need to do to make sure that they graduate on time so our guidance counselor is the one who meets with them be sure that she does review grades at the end of my search since its credit things I know she does make contact with students throughout because we do have progress rates and so if anyone comes up with an app she has that conversation with them you there was no previously not a way to help them catch up other than put them in an online class and that's why the support and I work together to bigger plan so that we can prevent it happening in the future but right now with our seniors and kind of we have what we have in we're trying to support them the best way that we can so priority will be seniors because our 28 suits I don't know that all 28 would come so but they would have priority to congratulations right around the corner but it would be open to soft freshmen sophomores and juniors if we have the sweets I mean it would go through the rest of the year but as you notice I'm looking as we kind of review the data from online classes this may be something that we have to start in your fall semester to provide that many more opportunities to take Kappa and one of the things that we're going to do next year is at five to the 21st century grant which really focuses on before and after school programs and so that we need to be able to fund something like this for the whole intermixture so the 39 total students with senior class we're all starting our evening their school with but they benefit all students at school year bringing them in transfer again some of them have been transferred it suspended even left behind now I previously up anymore but we do have kids like we had a fifth year senior come back they want to enroll because she wants to finish so you know we're taking kids as as they wanna if they want to come so some of them are transfers that we didn't have previously and doctoring like throughout the school year but they're required to completely cap each year which outlines all of the the credits that they need depending on what they want to do because of the graduation requirements are different if you want to get me to a four-year university but then there are graduation apprentice if you just want to graduate from high school and so those are outlined and they're required to put their grades in for those classes and when they put an F that means they can earn credit and so this year we our counselor has been having more of those conversations and I know when she touched base with the seniors when you came back from breaks because I've some grapes or cooks it a lot of them are really now in high gear and one hit in wanna finish they didn't realize just how much it means to fail a class and then try to get it done and short period of time so we are we are working on that too so I guess so you can say at this time the best you can do for this very much like to hear what we're gonna do with your do any peas and your everything else to talk about everything else everyone's just kind of getting that which is what and even before getting this did you have one more question to move forward and if you could get help yes that song that's a fine piece director second Soviet Hendrix all those in favor aye opposed not voting motion carries thank you the m27 consent agenda ATF will have a motion motion so the immediate second felony we split those in favor say aye opposed not lady memory vote to convene the executive session prefer ers 38 – hoarsely motion so via Hendrix a action item 80 approval of resignation or via 4e the information provided by the superintendent we didn't wanna entertain a motion motion is to approve the resignation by Sylvia hindrance of the second bike make me split follow us in favor both I not voting – I too not holding that's motion was a half [Applause] as I see and as I'm moving a little table and what happens in the future all I've seen under Roberts rule is the gaze and needs to not be ordered in committee of the whole when a motion is to be decided by a two-thirds vote or some other proportion greater than a majority over the voice vote it's too close to call you can use a rising blue which is just as a name implies asking the chair which acts on the favorite rice but it would come out to be the same person and then if you agree that died motion dies so that that one we continue very much at that point would be entertain another motion and move to the next box wouldn't be yeah just nobody Bernie the notion that we die for lack of emotion we see under traffic rules of order doesn't I just thought I might if there's a typo wouldnít in the members of to receive that's all that's an object I don't have the words ready to continue to do that but that's enough what was up so there's a type of the president would announce that there's a typo and that members could could have the option of voting again to see if there would be a majority vote that's what I said earlier the color rising over users asking the question again something like that said the current motion that was before fail promotion rate well or to vote again to the wizard who was applying he was deposed apart question because she already submitted who were ready finally me and I wish this well as we have been through supported some information for the information panel motion fails to a majority for every belt our next event or evil I'd like back there's even hundreds motions to it actually item has requested or are you just I imagine I believe because she wasn't she's not critical to superintendent about the motion do you mind you might I do not I am okay my guess that I would like to have perspective to my superior and so forth I just want to state your request okay the request from principal Schaeffer was too honor the resignation but she didn't she would like to be put on administrative leave and rest feeling it would not be conducive for her to return to that work environment where she felt like so a four-member would need to make that recommendation and then this can also add you're fine yeah yes Oh so I I would Oh yeah so we are recommendations with your – appear second Halloween Reese would I like to ask for a whistle Annamarie Stephens fuller Sylvia Hendrix hello my greasewood lon Kathleen banks or one good deal
