  1. Quitting Facebook is a good choice. I tried to quit Facebook and it worked in 2 weeks. I'm still struggling with it. My concentration is fragmented. I spent whole 4 hours a day for it although i'm quite busy. Too much jealousy, narcissism, misunderstanding. It's like spending your whole energy to convincing everybody that you 're not missing out.

  2. Facebook is run by people who are probably psychopaths. That's why I deleted my account. Turns out, it was also a great move for most of the reasons he says too.

  3. What do you say in for Social Media in 2019? Yes, it is entertainment with the invoked emotions. If Youtube is social media, then the argument goes bust.

  4. The issue I have is that I live in a different city from my family and closest friends. Social media is the one way I can keep in contact with them all. I wish I could leave it all but because that’s how they communicate in a group I’d just become more isolated if I left

  5. Social Media can be whatever you want it to be. Just be careful who you trust on there because you have not seen them face to face. If a stranger can pose as one of your friends so always be careful who you trust in that world.

  6. I will say this social media is like drugs right it seems like something that is very bad for you a till you try it.

  7. I don’t like to be addicted to anything. I’ve tried some drugs and nicotine but my free spirit doesn’t let me latch onto them for prolonged periods of time. I might use a Juul for a few weeks then quit for a few etc. I’ve done this before with social media but one of the best and most memorable weeks of my life was when I didn’t have a phone because it broke. I remember not feeling lonely, I remember feeling more excited to see my friends and tell them about my life and ask about theirs. It was refreshing and I felt like I had plenty of time in the day to do what I wanted to. But I realllllyyyyy think social media is an addiction because I feel myself getting pulled to open Instagram when more often than not, instagram will make me sad or feel not worthy. I also don’t get a lot of gain from social media except more information. Information that is mostly useless. Like how somebody I haven’t seen in 5 years is eating at chipotle. It takes up my brain space. I want to focus of what brings me joy in life and social media just isn’t one of those things.

  8. It's amazing that some people act as though the crooks at Facebook et al. should alter their platform to ameliorate the world—that they are unfair and silence people. Who the heck said we all have to be on Facebook? People act as though it's a platform that we're forced to use and on which we are forced to communicate with one another. Your free speech doesn't matter when you're on a site owned by a private entity; they can do whatever they wish to do with their product. Some people need to stop acting as though social media has wronged them, when it was their own personal decision to jump on in the first place. If you don't like it, it's best to leave.

I agree that plenty of people are badly affected by it, but it's majorly their own faults: their action of signing up was voluntary. Stop treating the worst possible social media sites as valid platforms on which to have your voice heard.

  9. It's been over two years since I deleted Facebook and my very dormant Twitter account. Oh, and I've never had Instagram. I decided to step back because I needed to focus on my physical health, mental health and career. Completing an Engineering degree and constantly arguing with strangers about anything and everything can't coincide. One has to make way for the other!

The only thing Facebook has done for me is make me lose respect for people I once thought were level-headed or smart, but clearly anyone can lose their head when they have an interested audience. I've even become slightly misanthropic because of it.

I was also getting somewhat tired of raising my former schoolmates' and acquaintances' children with my Wi-Fi and data bundles.

Now the only thing I need to do is stop reading and leaving YouTube comments.

  10. Luckily, I don't use Twitter or Instagram. So Facebook is my only vice. I don't really consider YouTube to be social media.

  11. I realized the Facebook was taking my time away and I quit him, now I feel so free! I have enough time to study a new language here on youtube videos, I also read the comments to practice…

  12. This week, I'm using your guidelines and giving one of my books away every day (avg. $5-7 value). In exchange for this freebie, I ask for a review and publicity. If I'm spending $5 on a Facebook ad that I don't know its' impact, I'd rather use the money for marketing face-to-face to develop relationships. Thank you for helping me think outside of the box!

  13. Quit it if you use its just distracting you from your social life and labor, but if you use it as a way to profit by gaining money and knowledge dont quit just focus and balance what matters from what it does not

  14. Quit Facebook (actually took the time to delete over 10 years of posts) and Twitter. I was addicted to them and they were taking up a lot of my time. I also gave up sugar.

  15. Whats sooo sad is that alot of people probably wouldnt have any type of direction in life if all social media goes down. Many people feel like they are somebody because of social media so imagine when its no more😳

  16. The Speaker and his followers are very Naive..while I can agree some social apps are waste of time or just for entertainment..with my experience it helped end homelessness for me. It helped me find a better Job and it also helped me find new friends to go out on ski tours in the backcountry, in a new place and a city I felt totally lost and lonely in.

  17. what if one is not addicted to it? That requires a lot of self control. I guess that is the best way.

  18. I’m one app away from being completely free of social media and it has brought more happiness into my life. Day to day problems are not made worse by social media. It’s just fresh and free (I do not include YT as a social media more educational and fun) but if anyone know of any messaging apps that doesn’t require you to give people (work colleagues and people you hardly know) your phone number please let me know 😀

  19. I read the book Walden, bought myself 12 acres of land near a forest with a trout stream on it and built myself a cabin. Life is peaceful now.

  20. I feel like both Snapchat & Instagram starting to get boring now cause ppl are busy with their lifes etc & that nobody wants to post stuff anymore smh 🤦‍♂️

  21. I quit Facebook back in 2014. And then Google+ shortly after. I still have an Instagram account that I use maybe once a month, but that is gonna be going away too. I can honestly say, after I left Facebook years ago, I was able to focus more on life and be more productive. I am a strong advocate of getting off social media.

As for the YouTube angle – YouTube is very dynamic. It is not only social media. This video alone demonstrates that Youtube has its value depending on what you as the viewer want to consume. I come on Youtube mostly to learn in my free time. I wouldn't necessarily tell people to get off of Youtube, but rather, don't get lost in all the "social" nonsense that can occur here. Just my opinion.

  22. I received a rejection letter that in part admonished me for not having a social media presence and implied that it was a reason for not being considered for the job.

  23. I watched this over a year ago and immediately deleted my Facebook app and haven’t looked back. I didn’t realize how badly it was effecting me and agree 100% with everything in this talk. Awesome!

  24. One matter came to my mind now .. the way in which the Social media is penetrating in all spheres of life .. we should better call it .. "Social Mania".

  25. I am 6 hours a day on youtube minimum and don’t use any other social media only watsapp and youtube

  26. Anytime I drop my phone and TRY to walk around I often myself with Anxiety and Depression, I just realized how Addicted I am to my phone. TBH I rather choose boredem than Depression because of some Few application with fake friends

Edit: Don't bother liking and replying cause I'm leaving YouTube

  27. "Man uses social media to say we dont need social media"

Also you guys do realize hes probably referring to youtube as well right? Really anything that constantly distracts you from every day life

  28. I quit ALL social media except YouTube , Two reasons , my main hobbies, CARS and Old Music. Two things that gave me peace, knowledge, fun and joy. …. nothing personal, no attacks, no drama……..

  29. i hav quitted facebook, instagram and now will limit watsapp too…only useful things for me are pinterest and youtube
