News Window – Market Headlines, Stories, and Alerts

The News window gives you access to real-time
news feeds as well as historical stories provided by Comtex. Comtex is a leading provider of real-time
news aggregated from thousands of sources. In addition to Comtex news, which is supplied
by TradeStation, Dow Jones news is also available as an optional service. To create a News window, click the News button
in the Shortcut bar. The News Filter dialog will open. Under the Type section you can select the
All Headlines radio button to view the most recent 25 streaming headlines from the news
provider. If you would like to reduce the initial number
of news articles to load, click on the Settings tab of the News Filter dialog. Under the Limits section, next to Initial
number of headlines to load, type a number between 1 and 25. As new news stories are posted, they will
increase the count accordingly and they will appear in the headlines pane automatically. This setting may be adjusted for each News
Filter individually. “All Headlines” is the name given to this
filter as it appears in the Name field above. You may edit this name if you wish. Click OK. The “All Headlines” filter will appear
in the Filters pane. To insert another filter, click on Insert
on the menu bar. Then select Filter. To create a name for the filter, click in
the name field. For this example we will name this news filter
Microsoft. Select the Symbol radio button to search for
news articles specific to one symbol. The last symbol used in TradeStation will
appear in the symbol box. For this example we will type the symbol for
Microsoft in the Symbol field. The lookup feature is also available; click
the Lookup button to search for symbols by description or root. A new “News” filter appears in the Filters
pane searching for stories specific to just that one symbol. You can also create a symbol list to search
for news stories related to any symbol included in the list. First we will name the news filter. Type the symbols in the symbol list field
and click the Add button. Repeat these steps until all symbols are added. Click OK. You have just created a watch list for a customized
list of symbols. You may also use custom symbol lists or a
TradeStation symbol list as a News Filter. From the Insert Filter dialog, select the
Symbol List radio button and click the Insert List… button on the right. If you have created a custom symbol list,
click on the plus next to Custom Symbol Lists and it should be there. You may also use TradeStation Symbol Lists
to access pre-defined lists of symbols. This example we will select the Dow Jones
Industrials. Click OK. Change the name. For this example we will type DOW 30. A new news filter is added. Comtex is the default news provider for the
News window in TradeStation. COMTEX gathers tens of thousands of stories
a day from over 70 content sources to create subject-specific news listings and headlines. To view news providers, click the Providers
tab. A list of news providers are listed under
the Providers section of the dialog. The Dow Jones News Service also provides company
and industry news, economic and political events, updates of all major financial markets,
and analysis of trends. It is offered as an optional service and is
available only after making changes to the data services in your account and subscribing
to this product. Now you may click the Edit button to edit
the categories and sources of news displayed in the News window. Click the Custom radio button to select categories
to use in your filter or keep the selection on All. Thank you for completing the Backup/Restore
TradeStation tutorial.
