Netanyahu: Israeli armament vital for Jerusalem’s security – 28.10.19 TV7 Israel News

Shalom and good evening, this is TV7 Israel
News broadcasting to you from Jerusalem; And in today’s top stories;
The self-proclaimed Muslim Caliph of the 21st century, leader of Daesh – the Arabic acronym
for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is dead. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stresses
the importance of stepping up Israel’s military armament, which – in light of the growing
upheaval that surrounds the Jewish State – is vital for the security of Jerusalem. Amid nation-wide protests in Lebanon, Hezbollah
Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah accuses Israel and the United States of seeking to
exploit the unprecedented wave of demonstrations to provoke conflict. The self-proclaimed Muslim Caliph of the 21st
century, leader of Daesh – the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
– Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is dead. In a highly complex military operation on
Saturday night, in Syria’s Islamist-infested northwestern Idlib region, U.S. special operations
forces stormed a compound where the world’s number one terrorist leader was attempting
to hide. Within minutes after their arrival, the American
troops overwhelmed al-Baghdadi’s protectors, and while desperately trying to flee through
an underground tunnel, the murderous Islamic leader detonated a suicide-vest he wore, alongside
three of his children. Announcing the momentous achievement, U.S.
President Donald Trump provided a descriptive account of the chain of events that brought
about the terrorist’s demise. “Last night the United States brought the
world’s Number 1 terrorist leader to justice. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is dead.” / “U.S. Special Operation Forces executed
a dangerous and daring nighttime raid in northwestern Syria.” / “The thug who tried so hard to intimidate
others spent his last moments in utter fear, in total panic and dread, terrified of the
American forces bearing down on him.” President Trump asserted that the successful
operation demonstrates America’s commitment to enduring defeat of all terrorist organizations
– and also revealed that in addition to al-Baghdadi’s demise, the U.S. forces managed
to secure highly-sensitive material that included extensive information on both the Islamic
State’s origins and future plans. “Baghdadi’s demise demonstrates America’s
relentless pursuit of terrorist leaders and our commitment to the enduring and total defeat
of ISIS and other terrorist organizations.” The American leader did not shy away from
thanking the nations and actors that assisted in guaranteeing the success of the complex
operation – including Syria, Russia, Turkey, Iraq, and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic
Forces. “I want thank the nations of Russia, Turkey,
Syria and Iraq; and I also want to thank the Syrian Kurds for certain support they were
able to give us.” Among the long-list of congratulatory statements
by world leaders, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated the United States
and its President Donald Trump for the “impressive achievement.” Speaking from the Israeli Air Force base of
Palmahim, Netanyahu insisted that while the successful assassination of the Islamist leader
is an important milestone, the campaign against terror is far from over. “I would like to congratulate President
Trump for the impressive achievement which led to the death of the head of Daesh, Al
Baghdadi. This reflects our common determination, that
of the US and that of all free nations, to fight the terrorist organizations and the
terrorist states. This achievement is an important milestone
but the campaign is yet before us.” When asked by a reporter whether Israel may
face a war in the near future, the leader of the Jewish State underscored that preparedness
is key in deterring any enemy from testing the country’s capabilities. “If war is forced on us – we will win a
very decisive victory. What I saw here today at this air force base,
the best personnel, and the best developments and weaponry will ensure that this will be
the case.” Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu stressed, at the weekly cabinet meeting, the importance of stepping up Israel’s
military armament which – in light of the growing upheaval that surrounds the Jewish
State – is vital for the security of Jerusalem. Netanyahu further insisted that the repeated
warnings that were voiced by himself and the IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi were not mere
political spins, but rather, reflect “the reality of present challenges and those of
the near future.” Taking these challenges into consideration,
Netanyahu emphasized that “a government with broad shoulders” in the form of a broad
national unity government is a prerequisite of the highest order. “What the Chief-of-Staff and I have said
is not a spin; it reflects the reality of present challenges and those of the near future. We must make tough decisions that require
a government with broad shoulders, hence the importance of forming a broad national unity
government. This is not a political question, but a national
and security question of the highest order. I hope that we can advance this goal in the
coming days.” Following through on this pledge to pursue
the formation of a broad national unity government, Prime Minister Netanyahu agreed to meet with
his political rival, former IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz, for the first time since the
latter received an official mandate from President Reuven Rivlin to try to form Jerusalem’s
next government. The meeting between two leaders, which took
place at the country’s Defense Ministry headquarters in Tel Aviv, lasted for about
an hour and a half. An informed source told TV7 that the meeting
was held “in a positive atmosphere,” after which, a joint statement by Gantz’s Blue
and White and Netanyahu’s Likud parties confirmed that another meeting is anticipated
between the two leaders in the near future. Now to Israel’s northern neighbour Lebanon,
where; Tens of thousands of protesters took to the
streets for the twelfth consecutive day, expressing outrage with Beirut’s establishment over
allegations of corruption and staggering numbers of nation-wide unemployment. While protests have been overwhelmingly peaceful,
the Lebanese Security Forces have struggled to prevent persistent demonstrators from blocking
roadways across the country. “It’s enough how much taxes we have been paying
for 30 years without having any services from all the successive government. Now, they want to add more taxes and fees,
the people’s economic situation does not stand anymore, we are doing some kind of civil disobedience
by blocking roads and protesting across Lebanon.” / “I have five children; I am hungry, and
I own a business. So where are they leading us still? To steal? To immigrate from this country? No, we are staying in this country despite
them and we will keep protecting this country with our eyes.” Responding to the protesters, Lebanese President
Michel Aoun, who is the leader of the country’s Maronite Christian minority, said in a televised
address to the nation that he was ready for dialogue with protesters to find the best
solution for saving the country from financial collapse and suggested a government reshuffle
was on the table. “My call to demonstrators: I am ready to meet
your representatives that carry your concerns to listen to your specific demands. You will hear from us about our fears over
financial collapse. We will discuss what we can do together to
achieve your objectives without causing collapse and chaos.” Despite President Aoun’s pledge for reform
and unprecedented measures to appease the public’s demand, protesters continue to
call for the government’s resignation. Responding to these calls, Iran’s Lebanese-proxy
Hezbollah – which is part of Beirut’s governing coalition – has launched numerous
counter protests in support of the government. These protests, however, came in spite of
a call by Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah who urged his followers to stay
away from protests after they clashed with demonstrators in the Lebanese capital. In his televised address, the Hezbollah leader
warned those who call for the government’s resignation that a power vacuum could tip
Lebanon into civil war, and suggested that his organization’s adversaries, including
the United States and Israel, were seeking to exploit an unprecedented wave of demonstrations
to provoke conflict. For more information on Israel and its region

  18. If Lebanon would quit buying so many weapons to attack Israel they would be less need for more taxes. Israel doesn't want to go to war with Lebanon anyway. Its Israel's neighbors that want war, not Israel.
