MA Financial Journalism Alumni –Manisha Jha

my name is Manish Shah I'm an alumna of City University's financial journalism program I joined here after completing my summer internship and right now I'm a rotation reporter on the european stocks team i joy the feeling of being challenged on a daily basis coming into work not knowing who's the CEO I'm going to talk to today where is it going to be what am I going to write about it's just completely fascinating to join the dots every day and find new stories new angle the aspect of learning new things every day is what I'm most excited about after completing my master's course at City University I applied for a couple of internships and one of them was with Bloomberg last year's summer and following that I got a job offer in October and I joined I was working as a reporter in India for seven years I did a bit of general reporting in New Delhi and then I followed it up with financial reporting in Mumbai and then I got a scholarship to come study at City University I chose City University because it turned out to be the best choice in terms of the academic curriculum the kind of faculty and the reputation not to mention the international exposure that the city had in terms of its financial journalism program where it take students to Shanghai and to New York as part of the summer school so I thought this was an unbelievably good kind of exposure that I needs to leave could ask for which is why I chose it I enjoyed being challenged every day and learning something new every day with the depth and the rigor of the lectures the global exposure we had to the summer school program and the soft skills I learned in terms of learning multitasking skills and working under pressure and learning how to manage my time the favorite part of being a student at City was me meeting people and students from all over the world I was completely fascinated with the kind of international exposure of cultural exposure I got show my classmates were from all over the world we still keep in touch and we learn so much from each other so that's the way cherished memory I have I hope to settle down in my final beat and bring the kind of tip and insight into the reporting that I've learned over the past few months the advice I would give to a perspective ma financial journalism student would be to understand what they want to do to get focused and also to do as many internships as possible while keeping a positive attitude throughout because despite all the problems and the issues that the students face I feel that this course is really worth doing if you put your heart into it and if you work hard you can really get the kind of job you want you
