  1. Carter Family recordings made for Victor 1927-1928.

"Anchored in Lover Divine" published 1911
Words by James Rowe alias James S. Apple (1865-1933) and music by James David Vaughan (1864-1941)

    [Verse 1]
I found a sweet haven of sunshine at last
    In Jesus abiding above
His dear arms around me are lovingly cast
And sweetly he tells his love

    [Chorus]
    The tempest is o'er
(The dangerous tempest forever is o'er)
    I'm safe evermore
(My anchor is holding, I'm safe evermore)
What gladness, what rapture is mine
(What gladness, what rapture is mine)
    The danger is past
(The waters are peaceful, the danger is past)
    I'm anchored at last
(My spirit is happy, I'm anchored at last)
    I'm anchored in love divine
    (I'm anchored in love divine)

    [Verse 2]
He saw me endangered and lovingly came
To pilot my stormy doomed soul
Sweet peace he has spoken and bless his sweet name
    The billows no longer roll

    [Chorus]
    The tempest is o'er
(The dangerous tempest forever is o'er)
    I'm safe evermore
(My anchor is holding, I'm safe evermore)
What gladness, what rapture is mine
(What gladness, what rapture is mine)
    The danger is past
(The waters are peaceful, the danger is past)
    I'm anchored at last
(My spirit is happy, I'm anchored at last)
    I'm anchored in love divine
    (I'm anchored in love divine)

    [Verse 3]
His love shall enfold me through life and in death
Completely I'll trust to the end
I'll praise him each hour and my last fleeting breath
Shall sing of my soul's best friend

    [Chorus]
    The tempest is o'er
(The dangerous tempest forever is o'er)
    I'm safe evermore
(My anchor is holding, I'm safe evermore)
What gladness, what rapture is mine
(What gladness, what rapture is mine)
    The danger is past
(The waters are peaceful, the danger is past)
    I'm anchored at last
(My spirit is happy, I'm anchored at last)
    I'm anchored in love divine
    (I'm anchored in love divine)

  2. If you are a guitar player back in the 50s or 60s………I was a young boy and Maybelle Carter was my hero I would play Wildwood flower over and over…Jimmy Olander in Diamond Rio has image of Maybelle etched into his pick guard on his Telecaster

  3. Thank you for sharing this beautiful song. We will never again hear the likes of these beautiful voices, and mores the pity. They are the true beginnings of Country Music. Their awesome voices and musical talents are missed very much.

  4. It's great hearing A.P. "bassing in" so much, and thanks for posting the lyrics so we can follow his lines as well as Sara's.

  5. I wish I could have met the original Carter family, to thank them for the many hours of relief they've given me.
