The top diplomats of South Korea and Japan
sit down in Beijing for talks but the two only reconfirm their differences over pending
bilateral issues. The government plans to invest billions of
dollars into developing South Korea’s innovative sectors… while more local companies are
stepping up efforts to make their own parts and materials crucial for the semiconductor
industry. South Korean regulators announce tough new
inspections on food from parts of Japan contaminated with radiation. The move comes amid fears that Japan will
run out of storage tanks to store nuclear waste water soon. And….Washington’s point man on North Korea,
Stephen Biegun, says the U.S. is ready to resume long-stalled nuclear talks with the
regime. Pyeongyang, however, lashes out at the U.S.
for pushing ahead with a joint military drill with Seoul.
