With Japan poised to take further measures
to restrict trade with South Korea, Seoul’s foreign minister says the government is preparing
for all scenarios. Kang Kyung-wha stresses that Tokyo’s retaliatory
moves will only hurt bilateral ties. Meanwhile, top diplomats from around the world
gather in Bangkok for the ASEAN Regional Forum. Eyes are on whether top officials from Seoul
and Tokyo will meet on the sidelines. President Moon Jae-in makes a visit to Jeo-do
Island, reconfirming his pledge to open the presidential retreat of the Island to the
public in September. He also stresses the historical significance
of Jeo-do island, where admiral Yi Sun-shin brought home Korea’s first naval victory in
battles against Japanese invaders. And… Korea’s chronically low birthrate shows no
sign of picking up, with the number of newborns continuing to reach new lows.
